Milton Keynes College — A Functional Skills English workbook built around target setting, practical writing, and learner progress

Milton Keynes College wanted a Functional Skills English workbook that would support learners in developing the practical reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills needed for study, work, and everyday life. The aim was to create a clear and accessible resource that helped learners track progress and understand how to improve over time.

We designed a bespoke workbook featuring diagnostic assessment trackers, colour-coded progress indicators, SMART target-setting pages, reading and writing target reviews, and structured learner feedback sections. The book also included practical guidance for Functional Skills writing tasks such as articles, reports, and formal letters, alongside writing checklists and presentation-feature prompts to help learners develop confidence in real-world communication.

The finished workbook gave tutors a consistent framework for monitoring progress and supporting intervention while helping learners build stronger literacy skills, confidence, and independence throughout their Functional Skills English course. The books were printed in the UK using carbon-balanced production and environmentally responsible materials.
