DAE Studio School — A 68-page bespoke Maths exercise book with a built-in GCSE Foundation checklist

A bespoke 68-page Maths exercise book for DAE Studio School, opening with a "How to look after your book" page and a personal Flight Path target grid, followed by a full Trigonometry and formulae reference spread, repeating squared-paper working pages with built-in marking and key-points strips, and a complete Edexcel GCSE 9–1 Foundation RAG-rating checklist for students to track every topic across the qualification.
The brief
DAE Studio School wanted a Maths exercise book that wasn't just squared paper between two covers. It needed to support students from KS3 through to GCSE in one volume — with the formulae they need on hand, the topics they have to master listed out so they can self-assess against them, and a working page structure that builds in literacy checks, key-point capture and challenge questions as part of every entry. The school also wanted ownership built in from page one: a "look after your book" page, login spaces for TT Rockstars and Eedi, and a personal Flight Path so the student's target grades sit at the front of their own book.
What we designed
Working with the DAE Maths department, we built a 68-page Maths exercise book combining reference, working pages and self-assessment.
Book ownership & target setting page — opens with the school's expectations for looking after the book (no graffiti, no scribbling out, no tearing out pages, ruler-underlined dates and titles, diagrams in pencil), alongside the student's My Flight Path with minimum target grade, end-of-year target, end-of-Year 11 target, and AP1/AP2/AP3 target vs actual columns. Login boxes for TT Rockstars and Eedi sit alongside, so the student's online learning credentials live in the same place as their written work.
Trigonometry & Formulae reference spread — a full-page tips sheet covering SOH CAH TOA with worked examples (finding a side, finding an angle), area and volume formulae (cuboid, prism, cylinder, sphere, trapezium, parallelogram, circle), Pythagoras' theorem, circumference and surface area, plus a complete metric/imperial conversion table and approximate conversions (1 inch ≈ 2.5 cm, 1 mile ≈ 1.6 km, 1 gallon ≈ 4.5 litres). Always-on reference the student can flip to mid-lesson without leaving their book.
Squared-paper working pages — the main repeating spread, on 5mm squared paper, with a date/title strip across the top and a built-in marking strip across the bottom carrying: Check list (Spellings, Accuracy, Units, Sign), a Spelling Corrections column, and a Key Points column. The literacy and accuracy expectations live on every working page rather than in a separate marking policy.
Next Steps : Further Challenge Questions page — squared-paper working with a dedicated footer strip and an Achieved / Date tick-box, used for stretch work and extension tasks so progress against challenge is recorded, not just attempted.
GCSE Edexcel Maths 9–1 Foundation Checklist — a full two-page spread listing every Foundation topic from Place Value through to Vectors, each paired with its CorbettMaths clip number(s) and R / A / G self-assessment columns. Students RAG-rate their confidence, get a direct route to revision videos for any amber or red topics, and have a live picture of where they are across the whole specification.
Important points and facts — a Key words / Definition reference spread for students to build their own glossary of mathematical vocabulary as they go.
The finished books
68 pages, printed in the UK and fully carbon balanced — a Maths exercise book that doubles as a revision guide, with the front-of-book ownership page, the formulae sheet, the GCSE Foundation tracker and the literacy-checked working pages all in one volume on the student's desk.
